One of the benefits of Visit West membership is the ability to add your events to our consumer websites for free. The What's On pages on both VisitBath.co.uk and VisitBristol.co.uk are incredibly popular pages and received over 1-million page views each in 2025.

There’s no limit on how far in advance you can upload your event, and you are welcome to do your full year’s programming at once, or just as and when things come up.

How to submit an event

At the bottom of both websites, there is a ‘Submit your event’ button and when you click on that, you are taken to the event submission form.

The most clicked-on events have a great short description to tempt the readers, and a strong, hi-res, landscape image, of 1220 x 715 pixels. It is a good idea to avoid using images with text on them, as the text may need to be cut off if the image needs to be resized.

How best to use the events form

  • Event name followed by event location, e.g., Music Festival at Bristol Aquarium
  • Event location address
  • Select the category that best suits your event from the drop-down list
  • Public contact information (email address, telephone number) *Please be aware that this information will be viewable by the public, so avoid personal mobile numbers, etc. Top tip!  Add +44 at the beginning of the phone number
  • A description of the event -the best descriptions contain information written in the 3rd person, e.g., The event will take place here and the team can't wait to welcome you, rather than our event will happen here and we can't wait to welcome you. The description of your event must be written in the 3rd person
  • A landscape image - please ensure that you/the organisation you are representing holds the copyright to these images and accepts responsibility for any related copyright claims
  • The dates for your event

At the bottom of the form, you will need to provide your personal contact details, which are not seen on the event listing once live – this information is for us to be able to contact you.

Once uploaded, your event will be reviewed by one of our team. We check the pictures, text and other aspects and will tweak it into our house style if necessary. This process can be sped up if you follow the guidelines on the event submission page, including writing in the third person (otherwise it can sound like we are the hosts for your event!).

It can take up to 2 weeks for your events to be approved, especially during busier times of the year.

There will be times when your event may be rejected, and this would be if we deem your event unsuitable for a visitor, such as an industry networking event or any event that occurs outside of our remit.

Once your event is live

Congratulations, you've done the hard bit! It doesn’t end there, though. Our marketing department can now make use of your event in their activity. Here are some examples of how it might be used:

Press and PR

Our PR Managers, Susie and Emma, send out regular press releases about what's on in Bristol and Bath to local and national press and media, which are frequently picked up by journalists.

Hospitality

A benefit of membership is our monthly event listing. Details of top events listed on our site is sent out to all member hotels in the area so their front of house team can let visitors know all about what’s on in Bristol and Bath during their stay.

Visitor Guides

We include large events in our yearly visitor guides, so the earlier you can let us know about upcoming events, the better the chance of being included. Our yearly visitor guide has a print run of 250,000 copies and is distributed in carefully selected high-footfall zones within the city and the surrounding areas. Destinations include Somerset, Gloucestershire and South Wales, as well as busy transport hubs such as London Paddington. Members also have the opportunity to advertise in these guides - a half or full page. Prices vary depending on the band of membership.

Blogs

The Visit Bristol blog and Visit Bath Blog regularly receive around 70,000 views a month. We actively use the database of uploaded events to inform our blog content, especially our school holiday and bank holiday things to do round-ups.

Social media

Every week, we pick out a few events to highlight on social media. With a following of around 400,000 people, that’s a big audience you might miss if we don’t know about your event.

We also post a monthly ‘What’s On’ reel to our social media channels, which regularly receives upwards of 25,000 views over the course of the month.

Newsletters

Finally, but not exhaustively, we’ll showcase certain events in our consumer newsletters, which go out to around 41K plus (Bath) and 20K plus (Bristol) subscribers every fortnight.
