About

Thornbury Castle boasts 500 years of Tudor history that few other English castle hotels can match. Built in 1510 by Edward Stafford, the third Duke of Buckingham, its construction was a reflection of his wealth and status at the time to rival King Henry VIII. After Stafford was found guilty of treason, the king took control of the castle, which he visited with then wife, Anne Boleyn, in 1535. Today, the castle has been sympathetically restored with 26 unique bedchambers offering refined luxury but staying true to its heritage. Enjoy a fine dining experience in the acclaimed 3AA rosette restaurant and wander through 15 acres of enchanting grounds complete with kitchen garden and original stone walled perimeter. There is also a selection of elegant event spaces for corporate hire and weddings, as well as the option for exclusive-use.

Conferences & Meetings

Looking for a unique venue for meetings, team building or training away days? Thornbury Castle is an ideal choice. Located 30 minutes from Bristol City Centre and Bristol Parkway, the distinct event spaces are able to accommodate a variety of requirements. The Baron’s Room offers an intimate setting with large boardroom style table and has splendid views of the grounds. For larger events, the Tudor Hall, with its beautiful, original fireplace, offers flexibility with different room configurations and is impressive to say the least. We also offer a variety of team building activities on site but can help to create a bespoke itinerary if required. See more here: https://www.thornburycastle.co.uk/meetings/

Gala Dinners & Private Dining

Thornbury Castle can cater for a range of private functions from milestone birthdays and anniversaries, baby showers, wakes and everything in between. They have a range of event spaces and packages suitable for all requirements. The Baron’s Room offers a more intimate affair, whereas the grand Tudor Hall can be transformed into a celebration fit for royalty.

Competitive Socialising & Team Building

There is a host of Tudor-inspired activities that you can participate in whilst at Thornbury Castle. From axe-throwing to archery, dressing up in Tudor costume and encountering majestic wild birds of prey with our falconry session. For a more modern twist, guests can also experience private helicopter rides across the Gloucestershire countryside. The venue also welcomes third-party events companies to stage their own creative workshops and events such as Traitors-themed evenings and murder mystery games.

Accommodation

The 26 bedchambers at Thornbury Castle are each as unique as the history of the castle itself, boasting contemporary luxury but staying true to the iconic period detail from its Tudor beginnings, a stay at Thornbury Castle provides more than just a relaxing stay - it’s an experience.

They have a range of Deluxe and Superior Deluxe bedchambers which offer premium comfort and regal style but if you really want to enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience you might indulge in one of the Castle Suites which include four-poster beds, roll top baths and a generous amount of space to relax in. Among the most coveted rooms are the tower bedchambers, accessed via the castle’s original spiral stone staircase. The King Henry VIII Suite bears the name of the castle’s most illustrious former owner, while the Catherine of Aragon Suite is distinguished by the largest four-poster bed of any hotel in the UK.
