The Royal West of England Academy is Bristol’s first and finest art gallery, located in the city’s historic cultural quarter. It is the UK’s only regional Royal Academy of Art - one of only five in total including those in London, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The RWA houses five spectacular, naturally-lit galleries with beautifully constructed interiors, wooden floors and marble friezes. Its lively programme of exhibitions celebrate the best of historic and modern British art, including artists from Turner and Constable to Fedden and Nash, and work by its own Academicians, who include some of the country’s leading artists.

Each autumn the RWA stages the Annual Open exhibition, one of the largest open submission exhibitions in the UK, which has been a major event in the artistic calendar of the region for over 160 years.

To make your visit complete, Epiphany café serves delicious snacks and lunches, and there is also an excellent gift shop.

The RWA is an Arts Council England accredited museum, and boasts Queen Elizabeth II as its patron. An independent Charity, the RWA receives no major core funding from local or national government, so there is a modest entry charge for adults.
