In this guest article, Bristol-based conference organisers Brightelm share their advice on preparing for the return of live and hybrid events.

We cannot wait for live events to restart and to see our vibrant Bristol city welcome business visitors once more. The team here at Brightelm has a wealth of experience in working with membership associations and not-for-profit organisations all over the world, but we can’t wait to start managing live events on our doorstep!

During the pandemic, which has had an enormous impact on the events industry, we’ve been fortunate enough to continue working closely with our clients to achieve their goals virtually. As restrictions begin to ease and events change format once again, here are some of our top tips for creating change-making events.

Ready to go live?

Over the past year we have seen a huge increase in virtual events and now there is a focus on hybrid events, offering your delegates the chance to attend whether at home or in venue. What this means is you may have a much larger audience than before – consider the time it takes to organise both live and virtual attendees’ needs.

Hosting hybrid events

Hybrid doesn’t mean just streaming your event. It’s about giving your virtual and live attendees an equal experience. Making sure the content is engaging and having the opportunity for them to interact with what is happening live. Finding the right platform for a hybrid event is important so you can exceed the expectations of your attendees.

Event programme

Consider your event programme – is your content engaging enough for virtual or hybrid? Changing the delivery of the event may also mean changing the format. Be open to ideas to achieve the best outcome for your members.

Explore your local destination market for sponsors

Bristol and Bath are vibrant, creative cities with a huge number of diverse companies. There may well be a local company that would love the opportunity to speak with your members and it will help build more connections for you in the future.

Utilise the knowledge and expertise of your suppliers

We make recommendations based on what would fulfil your needs. Just like us, your suppliers top priority should be making your event a success.
