About

Bristol Harbour is a treasured part of the city with many visitors year-round and is a vital part of the city's identity.

Visitors can find plenty to see and experience, both on the water and the quayside. Leisure activities on the water include open water swimming in designated areas, stand up paddle boarding, and sailing.

On the quayside are a number of heritage attractions such as Brunel's SS Great Britain, M Shed and Underfall Yard along with waterside restaurants galore. Just walking along the harbourside is a feast for the senses in itself.

Events take place all year round including markets, the much loved Bristol Harbour Festival and Docks Heritage Weekend as well as summer concerts along the harbourside, including Bristol Sounds.

Arriving into Bristol by boat

Visitors coming by boat to Bristol Harbour can stay at a number of mooring and berthing sites to access and enjoy this unique harbour city and its offerings.

Cumberland Basin (Western Entrance)

The Cumberland Basin serves as the main tidal entrance from the River Avon and the Bristol Channel. Vessels entering through this route must navigate the Entrance Lock, which is managed by the Bristol Harbour Authority.

This route is suitable for vessels approaching from the Bristol Channel and offers direct access to the Floating Harbour. Visit the Bristol Harbour website for the most up to date information.

Netham Lock (Eastern Entrance)

Netham Lock connects the River Avon to the Floating Harbour via the Feeder Canal, providing access from the east, including routes from Bath.

This route is ideal for vessels coming from inland waterways and offers a scenic approach through the Feeder Canal.

Both entrances provide unique experiences and are equipped to handle various types of vessels. Visit the Bristol Harbour website for the most up to date information.
