This week, we have been showcasing the best of the Bristol region at ExploreGB.  This is VisitBritain’s flagship travel trade event with more than 200 buyers representing 30 plus countries from around the globe.

Both Jon and Kathryn were representing team Bristol at the 5th ExploreGB event - in fact they have represented the region at all of them so far!

During the two days, they were kept busy with 48 individual appointments with tour operators, wholesalers and distributors looking to develop new product for clients.  This included meetings with buyers from the longer haul markets of USA, China, India (the highest demand for appointments), Canada and Australia plus European markets including Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium.

The appointments were interested in a wide range of business opportunities, and there was a mix in demand for FIT (Independent Travellers) and groups of all sizes.  This ranged from an update of 'what’s new' to specific information about flight routes, hotels, tours and itineraries.

There is a huge opportunity for businesses to work with the travel trade and events such as this easily demonstrate the demand for the Bristol area.  As a city region, we are reaching more and more people through the development of trade programmes, through our work with the consumer media and the incredible work of the VisitBritain teams overseas and in the UK.

As well as appointments and networking, VisitBritain officially launched their new trade distribution programme TXGB at the event and we are hoping to bring this to Bristol businesses as soon as we can.

As well as the 48 appointments and additional networking meetings, Destination Bristol will be welcoming a Nordic trade group to Bristol over the course of the weekend to learn more about cultural and heritage attractions, as well as local food and drink tours.
