On Wednesday 18 July Marketing Manager Jon Chamberlain, who leads on Travel Trade for Destination Bristol, attended the board meeting for the US Connections Discover England Fund project. Bristol is represented along with 13 other destinations in England. Our links with the States, location and transport links make us a great fit for this project. Travel trade plans include attendance at Destination Britain North America in October and World Travel Market in November as well as a major partnership with a DMC. There is also a national tour guiding conference and travel trade training opportunities for members. Themes include ancestory, special wartime relationship, faith & religion and the great migration.

Travel writer Fionn Davenport meets the locals

Earlier in the week we hosted travel writer Fionn Davenport for three nights while he was experiencing the area for the US Connections project, dubbed Tour England. Fionn will be writing up content and itineraries and so it was vital he experienced the product on offer as a tourist would. He visited Berkeley Castle, St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol Cathedral, Brunel's SS Great Britain, MShed, John Wesley's Chapel The New Room and much more, even fitting in time for a street art tour with Where The Wall. Thanks also to DeVere Tortworth Estate and Mercure Bristol Holland House Hotel & Spa who hosted Fionn.

UKinbound FAM trip group at Clevedon Hall

Wednesday also saw us host a number of tour operators on a familiarisation visit organised with UKinbound. Upon arrival at Bristol Temple Meads the guests were hosted by Head of Tourism, Kathryn Davis, and taken on a tour of Clevedon Hall before coming back into the city to Brunel's SS Great Britain.

Several of the buyers climbed the rigging with Go Aloft! before they were joined by over 30 other industry colleagues and UKinbound members for a networking evening in Being Brunel. After being treated to Pimms and lemonade and some fabulous canapes whilst watching hot air balloons float serenely over us, buyers were escorted back to Bristol Temple Meads on Bristol Packet Boat Trip's Bagheera.

Many thanks go out to all our partners and members who helped to host and make all of the above happen.
